Cookie Policy
Last updated: 12 May 2025
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies the Pinehurst website uses, why it uses them, and how you can manage your preferences. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your browser and store certain information about your visit. On this website, we use localStorage — a similar browser-based storage mechanism — to save your cookie preferences locally on your device. No data is stored on our servers as a result of cookie preference choices.
You can clear all locally stored data at any time through your browser settings (typically under Privacy & Security → Clear Browsing Data → Local Storage / Cached Data).
2. Cookie Categories We Use
We group cookies and local storage entries into four categories. Essential cookies are always active. You may accept or decline the others.
Essential
These are required for the website to function correctly. Without them, basic features such as the cookie consent banner and page navigation would not work. They do not collect personal information and cannot be disabled.
| Name | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| pinehurst_consent | Stores your cookie preference choices (localStorage) | Until cleared |
Analytics
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use this website — which pages are visited most, how long people spend reading, and where they arrived from. This information is collected in aggregate and is used solely to improve the website's content and structure. If you decline, we will not collect this data from your browser.
| Name | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics — anonymised page view tracking | 13 months |
| _gid | Google Analytics — session distinction | 24 hours |
Preferences
Preference storage remembers settings that personalise your experience, such as the language or region you have selected, so that you do not need to reset them on each visit. Declining this category will not prevent you from using the website but may mean some display settings are not remembered between sessions.
| Name | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| ph_display_pref | Stores optional display preference settings | 12 months |
Marketing
Marketing cookies may be set by third-party advertising platforms if you have followed a link to our website from an external campaign. At present, Pinehurst does not run paid advertising campaigns that involve tracking cookies. This category is listed for transparency and is disabled by default. If this changes in future, this policy will be updated accordingly.
3. How We Store Your Consent
When you make a selection in the cookie banner, your choices are saved in your browser's localStorage under the key pinehurst_consent. The stored object includes the following fields:
{
"essential": true,
"analytics": true | false,
"marketing": false,
"preferences": true | false,
"timestamp": "ISO 8601 date-time string",
"version": "1.0"
}
This data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to Pinehurst's servers. It is used solely to load or suppress the relevant scripts on page load and to suppress the consent banner on subsequent visits.
4. Third-Party Services
Some cookies on this website are set by third parties. We have no direct control over the cookies placed by these services, but we only load their scripts when you have given consent for the relevant category:
- Google Analytics — Used for anonymised website traffic measurement. Active only if Analytics cookies are accepted. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Maps (embed) — Our contact page includes an embedded map. This may set cookies from Google. It is loaded independently of consent preferences as it is a functional map embed, not a tracking service. Google's policy applies.
5. Managing Your Preferences
You can update your cookie preferences at any time using the button below, or by clearing your browser's local storage data.
Your Current Preferences
Essential
Required for the website to function
Analytics
Anonymised usage data to improve the site
Preferences
Display and language settings
Marketing
Third-party advertising (currently unused)
You can also manage or clear cookies directly through your browser. Most browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies and local storage data from their settings menu. Clearing all local data will reset your consent preferences, and the cookie banner will reappear on your next visit.
6. Updates to This Policy
This Cookie Policy may be updated from time to time, for example if we introduce new third-party services or change the way we use local storage. The updated date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. We recommend reviewing this page periodically.
